Best Book (that I bought) This Week

First off, I'd like to say something about Justice League #12. What happened to Aquaman? Isn't he supposed to be a mostly water doppelganger of Davy Jones from Disney's "Pirates of the Caribbean"?

Justice League #12 was a fine issue once again delving into the characters of the members of the Justice League. While interesting, it was mostly a way for Brad Meltzer to lay the eggs of future stories as he goes off the book. We'll see if Dwayne McDuffie will take the hint, or ignore it and go in a different direction. I'm voting for different direction. Heck, the Justice League got more action in Booster Gold #1 this week than in their own book. Add that to the action they got in the latest issue of Shadowpact, and their primary title begins to look like where the Justice League go to rest after a hard day of guest appearances. Otherwise, it was a finely drawn book with a few good, overly nostalgic moments.

Well, since I just harped on JLA for a few paragraphs, you can probably guess it wasn't the best book of the week.

The best book of the week happens to be:

The Brave and the Bold #6!

This has been a great book for me thus far. Mark Waid has been playing pinball with Green Lantern and Batman, having them bounce off a ton of unexpected heroes and heroines throughout the series, including Supergirl, Blue Beetle, The Challengers of the Unknown, The Legion of Super-Heroes, Lobo and Adam Strange, amongst others. It's been all chaos and action and I have to say that Waid writes a better Hal Jordan than Geoff Johns currently is. This issue resolves the 6-issue arc that's been going on, and, while it starts out a little unfocused, gets moving and really delivers the finale. Bravo, Brave and Bold!

An honorable mention goes out to Booster Gold #1 and a book from last week, Batman 667. Booster has some great dialog, and Batman is in the middle of a great mystery. Check them out.
