Shaolin Soccer and Kung Fu Hustle
Having some time, I managed to finally watch both these movies. Both were excellent: they had a mix of good martial arts action mixed with a measure of silliness, and a surprising dose of sentimentality and tenderness. Both were great examples of taking a fairly cliche story and twisting bits and pieces of it to produce something new and fun. Awesome.

Yeah, aren't those movies terrific? I wonder if he's done anything else recently. Taking fairly cliché bits and turning them into something awesome (even if a little sentimental) is something our industry should do more of.
