Best Comic

It's been a posty week with all the GDC stuff and all those new visitors. However, I can't let that stop my best comic of the week post, which, of course, starts out with what I will call the "Countdown Countdown".

This week, I bought Countdowns 11, 10 and 9. Amazingly enough, the story is starting to get entertaining. Brother Eye has taken over Apokalypse, Mary Marvel is back to being Mary Marvel, and non-stop action takes place as Jack Kirby's Fourth World mythos reels as DC begins to destroy it to amuse its audience. Sorry Jack! Bread and Circuses and all that! At least we'll still have Kamandi! Maybe.

Since I missed last week due to GDC, I had a ton of comics to read. New Wolverines, new Justice League and Justice Society books, a new X-Men First Class, and a ton of others. It was hard to make a decision, but, in the end, the best comic I read this week was Blue Beetle.

Jaime Reyes continues to entertain with a mixture of guts, humor and smart planning as he continues to outmaneuver the alien Reach. The whole extended cast shows up to protect his family as he gets himself captured aboard the Reach's big capitol ship and then escapes to do... something... bad to the engine computers. In a great twist, instead of ending the book in a cliffhanger where the hero's fate is uncertain, but certainly inn peril, the book leaves off with Jaime launching the final strike of his crafty plan: a plan the reader still doesn't know the details of. Wow! Talk about looking forward to the next book!

Congrats to Blue Beetle!
