The Link Well Has Gone and Dried Up!

Not a lot to link to these past weeks, so I guess I have to come up with my own content.

(shudder)

Well, Forza has dropped to 93.4% on Gamerankings. That puts us at number 33. Still a great achievement, by any means, considering the huge amount of games that come out every year. Watching the rankings of such a highly rated product really skews your perspective, though. As you watch the reviews come in, you start getting disappointed when you get a "mere" 90. Heck, scores as high as 93 make you curse game reviewers. On more normal products, of course, you get an 85 and you're dancing with joy.

.....

I was in a Gamestop a couple days ago. A father and his son came in to trade in a game and the son, who was about 10, I think, got to choose what to do with the trade-in credit. He ended up getting a used N64 controller with "Turbo". The boy mentioned that his friends suggested it, because the controllers really help your game.

Moments like these kind of startle you. When I think of people who play on N64s, I think of older guys who live in a world of nostalgia, not gangs of middle-class kids who get together on the playground and share tips on how to beat Zelda or Mario on a console almost older than they are. On the other hand, it kind of makes sense: the N64 never had GTA3 on it. Parents who worry about violent content would probably feel a lot safer leaving their kids with an older console, like a Colecovision or a 2600.
