Comic of the week

Hey! Look! I wasn't lying! It's a feature!

This week was pretty underwhelming, as far as greatness goes. In fact, this week's comic isn't even a whole comic, it's a back-up feature! Welcome to Tranquility is probably Gail Simone's best book out currently, due mostly to the deep, human characters that populate its huge cast. In this issue, the origin of the Coyote Kid was featured, and I'm proud to say it is this week's best comic that I bought.

It's a straight-forward mystical cowboy tale, but it once again shows Simone's understanding in how to get right to the core of what drives a character, and making that core as flawed and as human as the reader might be if put in the same situation.

There were a couple of moments this week that were also being considered for this feature. The new Atom (also by Simone) had a few great lines. She seems fixated on bringing Ted Kord, the former Blue Beetle, back to life. However, the story in this book just does not match the same story being told in Countdown. What's up with that? Don't they have email over there?

Another comic considered was the current issue of Marvel's Illuminati. The conversation about women in that issue, and how each of these supremely powerful characters deal with love and loss, is extremely good. The rest of the comic is meh, however.

All right! Two weeks in a row! Can I keep up the pace?

RSS feed added!

Due to overwhelming public outcry, I've set up an atom RSS feed for this blog. I surprise myself at how "Web 2.0" I am.

Test

In an effort to get the archives to work, a long process ensued in which my domain hosting service changed the password to my domain. It looks like the password change finally took, and I can post again. However, I still can't access the archives. Grr.
